[Patricia] Day 16: Coconuts All The Way With Desert Essence
I’ve been a big fan of coconut water for about 2 years now. It’s a great way to hydrate and get the potassium you need before a long work out. I was curious to see if there were other forms of coconut products out there that worked well. The other day I came across a company called Desert Essence. They are an organic personal care line that creates everything from skin to dental care. The claim on their website seems pretty intriguing considering all their products have some form of organic certification.
“Purely and simply, we strive to bring you nature’s best. Certified by either NSF or USDA Standard, our Organic skin, hair, and baby products are formulated with only the best ingredients to add some extra care to personal care products. They’re naturally-effective products you can feel good about using.”
Although I’m still exploring how legit certifications are (will dig deeper in a future post), I feel at ease that at least there’s some regulation around the ingredients in their products. So I dove right in and used DE to further explore my coconut cravings. I sampled their Desert Essence Coconut Hand and Body Lotion. The product is 100% vegan and wheat & gluten-free. That is a statement I haven’t seen in many products during my #Organic30day challenge. Other highlights: No parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates, phthalates or artificial colors. So far in this challenge we’ve learned that all of those are bad guys to stay away from, so cheers to Desert Essence for not incorporating ANY of them (which is not the easiest or cheapest to do).
When I opened the sample, it felt like someone slapped me with the guts of a coconut. It smelled like an ACTUAL coconut, not some synthetic fragrance called tropical breeze. Honestly, it smelled so real it made me hungry . I’m not sure if that’s a bad or good thing. I emptied out the entire sample and lathered it on my arms and my legs. The consistency is thick, but rubs into my skin pretty easy without visible residue lingering…..
….. so 20 minutes have just passed. I wanted to test how it felt after giving the lotion some time to absorb. My skin feels pretty sticky, but soft at the same time. I definitely thought the potent smell would have diminished by now, but it’s still there. Stronger than ever. Let’s see how my skin feels tomorrow morning.
….. It’s been 24 hours since I applied the sample on my arms and legs. All my dry spots seem to have gone away (yes, I just gave away my weakness), but my skin still does feel sticky. Overall – It definitely works and hydrates your skin better than some of the common brand lotions I’d get at the grocery store. Only downfall, which might be the reason it works so well, is the thickness and long-lasting sticky factor. In the future, I’d only use this product before going to bed so it has time to do its magic and I won’t have to deal with the fragrance and sticky factor.
